In Runn, you may want to track who a person reports to—whether that’s a field supervisor, team lead, or manager. This helps with visibility, planning, and reporting across your team.
There are two ways to capture this information in Runn:
Use the native Manager (People) field for a simple, built-in structure and assigning permissions
Use a Person custom field for more versatile reporting needs
Choose the option that best fits your needs.
Option 1: Use the Native Manager (People) Field
This option is best if you want a simple, built-in way to document reporting lines and assign restricted editing rights to the manager.
Pros
Any Admin or Manager users with people access added to Runn automatically become a selectable option in the Manager (People) field
If you plan to add the manager as a user in Runn, and limit their editing rights to only people they manage, assigning the manager in this field automatically assigns the manager's permission to edit the person
View the Manager (People) as a column in Reports:
Limitations
The manager or supervisor must first be added as an Admin or Manager user in Runn before they can be assigned
Grouping by Manager (People) is not supported in the People Planner or reports at the moment
Option 2: Use a Custom Field
This option is best if you need more flexibility in how you define and report on managers or supervisors, and don't need to assign restricted permissions.
Pros
Customize the field name to match the naming convention of your organization internally
You can group by in the People Planner and reports
Limitations
Appears toward the bottom of the list of filters in the People Planner:
Requires an Admin (with Account Settings set as On) to maintain the list of managers/supervisors selectable:
