We will be undertaking some improvements to user permissions.

The changes will allow more flexibility and granularity when setting users' permissions. We will be making these changes in stages and are excited to give you more options and flexibility.

What are we improving?

We are enabling more granular control of People and Projects. Under the new permission structure, you can:

  • Assign Data Manager to help with data management in Runn with restricted financial access

  • Assign People Manager to only edit People but not projects

  • Restrict Project Manager's right to assign people to their projects

Re-structuring Permission Access Levels

The names and structure of permissions will be changing. Currently, we have 5 different Account Types. Account types will be called User types. You will have 3 user types to select from:

Current Account Type

Future User Type

  • Admin

  • Editor (All Projects & People)

  • Admin

  • Editor (All Projects)

  • Editor (Restricted Projects)

  • Viewer All

  • Manager

  • Viewer Basic

  • Timesheet Only

  • Contributor

🚫 CANNOT edit any properties under Manage Tab

You CANNOT restrict the user's access to:

⭐ Key Benefits

  • Limit Data Management to Admin Only

    • As Manager Users cannotΒ edit account-wide properties (Manage Tab), you can safely assign Project/ People Managers to this user type and have the peace of mind that they will not accidentally change account properties.

  • Team-based People Management

    • You can now allow a Manager to only manage a restricted list of people.

  • Customize Project Managers' right to add people to their projects

    • Depending on your organization's usual practice, you can allow a Project Manager to add anyone, only people they managed or nobody, to their projects.

The current Viewer All Account Type can be set up as a Manager in the future:

When will the new permission structure be launched?

We will be making these changes gradually and are excited to give you more options and flexibility.

What will happen to my existing users and their permission settings?

We will make further announcements when we roll out the new permission structure and the plans for migration.

Thank you! Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to improve your experience with Runn.
