Public holidays let you easily set up time off based on each person's working location.

Viewing Public Holidays

All public holidays will be visible in the people planner under each person and in the Time Off display mode. You can hover over each one to see the public holiday name:

Can I schedule an assignment on top of a public holiday?

Yes, you can overwrite a public holiday by clicking on it and scheduling on top of it. This will appear as overtime:


Set up Public Holiday Groups

All admins can add, edit and delete holiday groups.

You'll first need to set up Holiday Groups for each region you have people in.

  1. Head to Settings > Public Holidays

  2. Click New Holiday Group

  3. Select a country. You can also optionally select a region. Give the holiday group a name.

  4. A list of all the public holidays for that country or region will appear. De-select the ones that you do not want to include.

  5. (Optional) If a specific holiday you want to add is not listed, you can add them under Custom Holidays

  6. Click Create


Add Location Tags to People (for global teams)

If you have a global team with different public holidays, adding a location tag to the team members will help you quickly filter the people when adding them to Holiday Groups.

Bulk Add People to Holiday Groups

Add people to holiday groups so future public holidays apply to them.

Recommended bulk-adding if you are setting up or managing public holidays for the first time, or want to bulk-add people. Only future holidays - starting from the date of the change - will be added to the people.

Each person can only belong to one holiday group.

  1. Go to Settings > Public Holidays, click on the Holiday Group Name

  2. Click on the People Tab

  3. Click Add People

  4. Search for the people you wish to add. If you have added a location tag, type the location in the search bar. You can tick the box next to the search bar to Select All


  5. Click Add Selected

All future public holidays for that holiday group will get automatically added to the people's schedules.

Add Public Holidays to a person

You can also add a person to a holiday group from the People Planner. Follow the steps of editing a person to add them to a holiday group, or select a holiday group when adding a new person.

Can I add public holidays in the past?

Adding past public holidays isn't supported; instead, you can add scheduled leaves in the past as public holidays.

What happens if a Public Holiday overlaps with an existing scheduled leave on the same date?

It will overwrite the scheduled leave. The time off hours will not be double-counted.

Can I import public holidays via CSV or API?

Currently, Runn does not support importing public holidays via API or CSV.


Edit Future Public Holidays

If you need to edit future public holidays in a Holiday Group:

  1. Go to Settings > Public Holidays, identify the Holiday Group Name

  2. Click on the 3-dot icon > Edit Details

  3. Select or de-select the specific public holiday dates, or add custom holidays

  4. Click Save

All changes will be applied to all people associated with the holiday group. You cannot adjust the future public holidays for a specific person.


Remove People from a Holiday Group

When you remove the holiday group for your people, past public holidays will remain in their schedule, and only future holidays - starting from the date of the change - will be removed.

From Settings > Public Holidays

  1. Go to Settings > Public Holidays, click on the Holiday Group Name

  2. Click on the People Tab

  3. Identify the person you want to remove

  4. Click on the 3-dot icon > Remove from Holiday Group

  5. Click Remove to confirm removing the future holidays

From People Planner

Follow the steps of editing a person to remove the holiday group associated with them.


Delete a Public Holiday Group

If you delete a holiday group, all future public holidays will be removed for the associated people.

This action cannot be undone.

  1. Click the 3-dot menu of a public holiday group, then select Delete

  2. Click Delete Holiday Group

All public holidays from the past will remain in their schedules.


Delete past public holidays for people

Only full admins (Admin users with Edit Account Settings & Data set as On) can manually delete past public holidays from people on the people planner.

Delete a past public holiday for one person

From the People Planner, find the public holiday and hover over the bar. Click on the 3-dot button and select Delete

Delete multiple past public holidays for multiple people

  • From the People Planner, switch to the Time Off display mode

  • Right-click on a public holiday to be deleted and select Enable Multi-Select Mode

  • Click on all other Public Holidays to be deleted

  • Right-click again and select Delete All Selected
