Why are my project hours different on reports than on the planner?

The planner uses scheduled hours only while the reports display actuals when available along with scheduled hours.

Reports will allow you distinguish between them however. Click on the Columns button and scroll to "Effort"- you'll see Total Hours. If you open this up, you'll get options for actuals and scheduled.
