Compare Planning Options with Individual Tentative Projects (Lite and Legacy Plan)

The instructions in this article apply only to customers on the Lite or Legacy Plans. If you are on the Standard or Advanced Plan, please refer to:

By default, when the Tentative Toggle is turned on, all tentative projects' workloads will be included in the availability/utilization calculations on the People Planner, Charts, and Reports.

There may be times you may want to compare different planning options for a single tentative project (or several projects), for example:

  • What is the optimal start date of this tentative project given my capacity?

  • What's the effect on my team's capacity if I assign this group of project team members to this project instead of another group?

  • Taking on all tentative projects will exceed my team's capacity. How many projects can we take on, and which one should we prioritize?

If you only want to include or exclude the workload of specific tentative projects, you can customize which tentative projects to include or exclude:

How do I include or exclude the workload of specific tentative projects?

  • From the People Planner, click on the grey arrow next to the Tentative Toggle

  • Type a keyword in the project name in the search bar to search for the tentative project. Only the projects with names matching the keyword will be displayed in the dropdown.

  • Turn on or off the toggle next to each project to include or exclude the project in the calculations.

💡Pro Tip: Turn on or off the toggle on the search bar to select or deselect all tentative projects in the dropdown menu

Unlike the Scenario Toggle, you cannot apply a filter to bulk-select specific tentative projects. You need to toggle on the tentative projects individually.

You can also use the Tentative Toggle under the Project Name on the Project Planner or on the People Planner. Click here to learn more.

Example: How do I compare different versions of a single project?

  • From the Project Planner, turn on the Tentative Toggle

  • Identify the tentative project and duplicate it

  • Adjust the copied version of the project as needed (i.e. reschedule, reassign people etc.)

  • Rename the copied version of the project to something identifiable (e.g. iHumanOS - delayed 2 weeks or iHumanOS - reduced hours)

  • Turn on Charts on the Project Planner. Apply a filter to the Chart if you like to focus on a person or a specific group of people

  • Turn off the All Tentative Toggle, click on the grey arrow next to the Tentative Toggle and toggle on each version individually:

  • See how the capacity, availability, and utilization charts change as you toggle on each version of the project in real-time

  • After comparing the two versions, once you've decided which plan to go for, make sure you delete the other tentative project to prevent duplicating metrics in reporting.
